Cabaret 2024 is a Wrap!

Akima Cabaret is the major fundraiser for our Grants program. We hold our cabaret biennially, and each member puts their heart and soul into providing the community a wonderful evening of entertainment, all while we raise money for many worthwhile agencies all over our area.

We would like to thank the entire community who came to support us the weekend of our 2024 Cabaret!! With your generosity and willingness to attend this entertaining show, we will help non-profits all over the area! We look forward to seeing everyone in 2026!

Cabaret 2022

“The Roaring 20’s - When Decades Collide” was a fast-paced show set in 2 different speakeasies… one in 1922 and the other in 2022. A hedonistic and debaucherous way of life seems to be a recurring theme once a pandemic is over, whether it is the Spanish Flu Pandemic of the early 1920’s or the COVID pandemic of the 2020’s. The Roaring 20’s was a time of men in tuxedos and women in flapper dresses partying like there’s no tomorrow. Now, get ready for a flashback as 2022 ushers in its very own version. The show was filled with music and dance from both time periods and had us on our feet ready for a little party.

2020 CABARET

Cabaret 2020, #HerStory with Sunny Sphere, was held on March 6th and 7th, 2020.   The show centered around a fictional talk show “live” from the Bijou Theatre.  The show celebrated the accomplishments of women from all walks of life and all parts of history.  We took at fun, lighthearted look at what women have done to shape our world and combined that with powerful and emotional moments that got our audience out of their seats.  The show was full of exciting songs, incredible dance numbers and rib tickling moments that left people talking about #HerStory long after the show ended!

Cabaret 2018

Cabaret 2018 was again held at the Bijou Theater on February 23rd and 24th, 2018. This year’s show was titled Happily Ever After? and pitted evil Disney Villians against the beloved Disney Princesses, who when robbed of their powers, were forced to take ordinary un-princess like jobs. With the help of their Fairy Godmother, the Princesses were able to defeat the Villians and live their new modern lives happily ever after.

This year’s Cabaret was unique in that we told a story through dance and music. It was the most theatrical production we’d ever attempted and we thank the entire production crew for challenging us and teaching us about acting through music.

2016 Cabaret

Cabaret 2016 was held on the US Cellular Stage at the Bijou Theatre February 26 & 27, 2016. AKIMANOPOLY took the audience on a journey of imagination with the Golden Girls. The girls got more than they bargained for while playing a game of Monopoly and hilarity ensued as the game came to life. They were whisked away to the land of Lost Pieces where they had to help the Monopoly man himself, Pennybags, solve a crime. Someone had stolen all of his money and that meant no more funding for Knoxville’s Boomsday! It wasn’t an easy case to solve because there were more than just skeletons in the game closet! In the end, the thief, Jake the Jailbird, was caught and Pennybags found his money.
